My inner bitch failed

Okay, I was practicing using my inner bitch. My goal was to not post anything new until someone leaves at least one comment. But I can't. My inner bitch failed. So, I will write this morning.

I promise.

I'm just headed out to run a 5K. A couple of girls I know were going to run with me, but they're not. One because of the rain. The other, I don't know. It's always something.

It's dry out and our first chilly day, but that's okay. The run benefits women who are victims of cancer or domestic violence. Cancer and domestic violence happen even in the cold or rain.

Back soon.

Is ANYONE out there?

I'm going on strike from adding to this blog until someone comments.

What's up with the silent treatment? I feel like I'm screaming into an empty cave.

This blog has existed for more than five weeks now. You read about my crazy thoughts and experiences every day in more than 40 posts.

But I hear not a word from you. Only one comment so far. Ever. (Thank you Annalise!!!)

I know dozens of you are out there, but who are you? What are you thinking? If I can share all of my divorce tales, party stories and ramblings about sexual adventures, you can respond back with something.

A thought. A story. An experience. Anything. We want to hear from you. Single or not. Girl or guy. Why not? No one has to know it's you.

And if you keep commenting, no one will be able to shut me up.

What are you waiting for? Comment!

Tired. Stressed.

This single girl's exhausted.

There's enough work to keep me busy 24/7 for at least two weeks, and that assumes no new work. Pleasing clients is draining. By the time I read, research, write and talk all day, I need a break. A walk down to the pub or dinner out for some social relief. But I should keep working.

Then the night just doesn't end. We get to talking and it's one or two in the morning. Then car crashes happen  and we're getting to bed at five. But I still have to get up to work at a decent morning hour. Again. And jog (my other therapy besides writing this blog).

Sure, I could avoid much of the stress and exhaustion, but it's hard to say no to new work and especially to fun. No one wants to miss out. But I love sleep. Sleep is underrated. We should all get more sleep and take more vacations.

I still need that vacation so I can put my toes in the sand and sip umbrella drinks in my bikini before I get too pale and too stressed.

And we should have more sex. This is one of those times not being single would be nice. Someone would have a bottle of wine and simple dinner ready. Magic fingers on tense shoulders then carry me to bed and take over. Maybe surprise me with those vacation plan.

I'm still happy. Happier than I ever remember, and I would trade my life for anything (except for becoming independently wealthy and moving to Santorini). I'm grateful for friends who will listen to the rambling even though they're tired and stressed too.

Next I must write a news release about a brewery, so I think I need a beer while I write. But I think I'll go for a run first. Clear my head so I can work my ass off the rest of the day then do something nice for me later. Like we all need to do.

Sex, car crashes and judgment

Sex. What better topic for a bunch of single people shaking off the Monday together at midnight on the neighborhood  pub patio? We're all trying to figure out what it takes the find someone you have really mind blowing sex with that's also a good partner. Someone good for you in all ways.

We talked about what makes sex so mind blowing. One good friend told us about how he has great sex with his ex. It's so good because they both love it. He enjoys pleasing her and she's into being pleased. But she's his ex. Another dear friend is struggling to figure out why she and her boyfriend haven't had any the last couple of times he's been in town. That makes it tough for a girl who loves sex and remembers the amazing times with her ex. Time to talk.

And my ex was a bad lover and partner. At least he's my ex. The best sex I've ever had is with my occasional lover. When we're together, we connect physically and emotionally. He's a delicious lover and brings out the best in me, but I'll never know if he's a good partner. Can I have both with others? I don't know but would love to learn.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the last man I had sex with was sitting across the table listening to most of the conversation. He smiled and looked over at me more than once. Read Laugh, live, love and labels to hear about that weekend secret. And I didn't even feel awkward like I probably should have.

Then screech! Crash!  No. One of our exes didn't show up. A speeding truck ran head-on into the concrete wall surrounding the roundabout in front of the pub. It ended the conversation and sobered us up. Fast.

While we watched the police, EMTs and firemen work their magic, people's reacations fascinated me. Some ran down to help as soon as it happened. Some screamed. Some of us stayed on the patio with big eyes until our hearts stopped pounding and hands were steady again. And the weekend secret guy shook his head and said everyone was overreacting.

"It's just a car accident," he said.

What? How can you judge? We just witnessed a near fatal car crash. What if one of us had been crossing the street? What about those who had experienced bad wrecks themselves or lost a loved one?

Once the mess was down to skid marks, bits of landscaping and random small car parts in the road, it was after two and the bar closed, but we weren't ready to sleep.

"Let's go to my house!" I said. So we did.

The secret weekend guy saw the bag of birdseed inside my front door and asked what it was for.

"To feed the birds, and keep Lucy entertained."

"That's unethical," he said. "So your cat kills the birds while they eat?"

What? "Lucy doesn't go outside."

"You still shouldn't feed the birds because if you stop, they won't know how to find food," he said. "I'm not judging you."

Are you fucking kidding me? So I poured wine and moved on.

We were tired but not. Conversation stayed light and we learned more about each other. Secret weekend guy was quiet.

Until he laughed, leaned over and mumbled to me, "This is getting boring."

"They're talking about their careers and how they got where they are."

"Oh. It's just not what I'm used to," he responded.

"So contribute. What would you like to talk about?"

"I just want to be quiet," he said.

I was tempted to answer back how he was welcomed to be quiet at his own house. But I didn't want to judge.

It got deep under my skin because the scenario reminded me so much of my ex. How he would leave skid marks across me with his digs about how small town and repressed I was in bed and tire tracks across my friends and me with his criticisms and arrogant judgment.

The birds are still eating, and Lucy's still entertained. And no more skid marks. Ever.

This single life's a funhouse

Yesterday I spent an amazing evening at the state fair. My friends go every year and have lots of traditions starting with an Irish Car Bomb  (another first and delish!) at the local pub to kick off the real fun. It was my first time at the fair in years, and we took in a bit of everything - a concert, people watching in the midway and fried everything.

Vendors fry Snickers, guacamole, Twinkies, pumpkin pie, Samoas, watermelon, bacon cinnamon rolls, PB&J&B, sugar cubes, cactus, mac & cheese and most anything you can imagine. We didn't try the fried beer and I'm sad we never found the deep fried chocolate tres leches cake, but between us we ate ribs, jambalaya, cookie dough and tornado fries. All fried. Yum. Who wants to eat healthy at the fair?

And the prizes for the midway games are always so outrageous. We wondered how many darts the girl had to throw at balloons to win the red dog that was so big we thought she was wearing it. And I had nightmares about the six-foot stuffed Rastafarian cigar that looked like a giant penis. I didn't want a pic of that one!

The rides were the most fabulous. Seeing the city lights from the Ferris wheel, being glued to the wall by inertia as the ride spins, up and down crazy roller coaster hills, and flipping upside down and all the way around on the ride I have no idea what to call.

The one that stuck with me most was the funhouse. We never knew what was coming next. Around one corner were rings you jump up and grab hold of as they spin one way and the floor the other. Then there were steep stairs that move in different directions, walkways with surprise humps and dips that jump out in front of you and rubber obstacles to maneuver through. We even stepped blindly into a small, dark tube and slid down alone to god knows where.

We all laughed the entire way through. The only kind of scary part was running sideways through a giant spinning hamster wheel.

"What's the secret for getting through?" I asked the guy.

"Run fast."

I kicked my shoes off and tried to go fast but still fell on my ass. And got right up. And kept laughing.

My head was spinning and stomach churning when I got home, but it was nothing a good night's sleep didn't cure.

Just like life.
