Top 10 nuts for single girls to store away for winter

Squirrels have it right. While I was running in the park today, I watched a few of the little brown critters scurry around looking for the perfect spot to bury the giant nut in their mouth.

They made me think about what nuts a single girl should store away for winter. This is my first single girl winter so these things are important. And there are definitely a few must haves.

10. A bottle of chilled Bailey's. No reason needed. Bailey's is just yummy and can get just about anyone in the holiday spirit.

9. Fixins for your favorite cold weather comfort meal. Chili, stew, soup, green bean casserole are a few that come to mind. And the more people you can serve the better.

8. A cozy restaurant close by where you can fill your tummy and warm up. Mine is the sushi place a block away. I already know I'll be there a couple of times a week for lunch for a big bowl of miso soup and a pot of green tea. The soup warms me to my fingertips and is only $3. My friend and I have already warned them we'll show up in our PJs, fuzzy slippers and wrapped in Snuggies. There's also some amazing gumbo a little further down the road.

7. Speaking of Snuggies, I don't have one. What? I'm not sure how that's happened. It's another must have.

6. A fireplace or a friend close by with one. (And I don't mean a fireplace screen saver. That's just cruel.)

5. Breakfast food to make for dinner. There's nothing tastier and more comforting than a breakfast spread on a chilly night. Pancakes, waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, ingredients for your favorite breakfast casseroles - you know the sinful ones with eggs, cheese and sausage - are all delish options.

4. Hot chocolate and hot tea to add to your coffee supply. Lots.

3. Access to your favorite light chick movie or series. Mine is Sex and the City - all 94 episodes. I'm already thinking about watching parties.

2. Extra cash for that mid-winter trip when you absolutely must put your toes in the sand or the snow or wherever you and your toes are happiest. This isn't a trip to visit family for the holidays. This is a trip for you.

1. If you can, why not store some real nuts away for winter, along with everything they're attached to, of course. What single girl doesn't enjoy a cozy cuddle with a snugly guy on a chilly night?

What are your must-have nuts to store away for winter? I'm just learning so comment please!

2 a.m. messages

A friend passed along the funniest thing on Facebook tonight. I've heard it before, but this is the first time through single girl ears and it made me laugh.

3 a.m. phone call:

"Hey are you asleep?"

"No, I'm skydiving."

I'm confessing to you all right now. I am stealing this next time that middle-of-the-night call or text happens. And it will. It always does. It happens to most every single girl.

You've read about a few already, and the others weren't interesting enough to write about. One guy had a 2:08 a.m. urgent need to pick up his hoodie I had borrowed. It was early August in triple digit temperatures. Brrrr. And he thought it would be awesome to hang out for a bit too. Another just invited me over to his place at 2:34 a.m. But he didn't ask if I was asleep. Then there was the "Are you sleeping :-)" text at 1:04 a.m.

And finally, the 2:30 a.m. phone call. It was after our fun evening, and followed our goodnights. But that call resulted in "If he doesn't remember did it happen?" - still the most read Story of a Single Girl post so far.

Yes, each is real. These and more happened in the last three months. I slept through or ignored most of these messages. Late-night bootie calls typically aren't my thing. But don't get me wrong, they can be really sexy and fun if you know the person and that chemistry's there. I think the single girl trick is staying in control. Why wait for him to send the message?

But next time he texts or calls, perhaps a neighborhood squirrel will answer while I skydive.

Love to the single girls (and thanks to my friend for sharing and making me laugh!),

A mermaid goes unsingle in the most fairy tale way

Last night I went to my former neighbor's wedding shower. When I got there, she dropped the news that she just got married in a secret ceremony in Bora Bora, a tiny island in French Polynesia. What a fairy tale. And where else would a mermaid marry?

She was the ultimate single girl. A party girl. And she and I agree she's at least part mermaid.

She hung out with a great group of girlfiriends. And she dated. Lots. Since I met her, I noticed how she oozes style and confidence and infects everyone around her with a playful smile. And she owns her own business. As I got to know her, I learned she is smart, warm and sincere and always stands by her word. We single girls know these are rare traits among single girls who are often so focused on becoming unsingle they shit on everyone else around them at first sight of a potential boyfriend.

This girl did her single years right. And she's starting out her unsingle years right too.

She and her new husband met in January. Then it was one of those in five-months-they-knew-each-was-the-one romances.

And a bachelorette party in another two months. Take a look at Do we ever grow out of bachelorette parties and A girl brought a penis into a bar and guys were scared for all of the juicy bachelorette party details.

The dreamy, secret beach wedding followed a week later. It was just the two of them along with some Bora Bora natives. Tropical island. No stress. Sand between her toes and the love of her life by her side. What more could a girl ask for in her final moments of being single?

And they managed to keep the Bora Bora wedding secret for days until they did a surprise ceremony for immediate family. They thought they were coming to an engagement dinner. Sorry, we're skipping appetizers and having a wedding instead. Okay by you?
Then there was the wedding shower last night on their almost five-week anniversary. Who said mermaids have to follow the any kind of wedding order anyway?

I hope this former single girl the best, and thank her for helping inspire this blog. She inspired single girls along the way of her bachelorettehood, and I'm certain she'll continue to do the same in every stage as they live a happily-ever-after story book life.

Love to the single girls (and mermaids and recently unsingle too!),

Bras and doorknobs

Have you ever heard a girl say, "I have too many bras."

Really? No! A girl can never have too many. Ever.

I was getting dressed for my friend's wedding shower tonight and the collection of bras on my doorknob struck me - especially since my ex bitched and moaned any time I hung stuff on a doorknob. (But he expected me to overlook his piles of programming books. Everywhere. And clothes from high school filling our closet. But that's another post for a different day.)

The collection reminded me of how important bras are to feeling put together. My good friend shared one day that her ex-roommate borrowed her brand new Victoria's Secret white bra and thong. The tags were still on, and she never asked - or told - my friend she was borrowing them. Really girls? Tragic. Bras are sacred, and not intended to share (not to mention thongs!).

When I moved into my new place, the bras found a home on my closet doorknob. My closet is where I get dressed. I can see everything and grab the one I want fast. That's important since I'm always running a minute or two late.

And each one serves a purpose. Some are for plunging necklines while others have straps that adjust, or come off, for whatever shape top. Others just feel sexy. And it's always fun to match with the fav panties to feel ultra special.

But I'm missing something. I need a new one. It's fall now and black is the only autumn-ish color represented. Maybe a leopard print?

Is wild cat the way to go or something else? Let me know what's missing.

And wear what you feel pretty in. Always.

Patrons taking their clothes off in a bar

Okay, I'm back.

So, to catch you up since my strike, the other night a group of friends went to one of those dueling piano bars. Since it was a Thursday night, the place was far from full, but there were three birthday girls and one bachelorette. And they celebrated. A lot.

With only about 30 people in the audience, thee two guys on the pianos know how to get the crowd going. They brought all the girls up on stage and sang Brick House by The Commodores - a great party song no matter how old you are. The girls were pretty tame on stage considering how many shots most of them had consumed.

Then the boys had their turn. Their song was I'm too Sexy by Right Said Fred. Boy they got it right too! Almost every man on stage did their own little strip tease, but pants stayed on though dang it!

Then the girl in the swirly dress wouldn't be outdone. If the guys showed their chests then so should she. She hopped up on stage and flashed her tits. I didn't photograph that one, but the guy swinging his shirt around did.

Don't get me wrong. You know if you've been reading this blog that I'm no prude. But I'm not an exhibitionist either. Topless on the beach in Europe - no problem. I've done it before. It's nice not to have the tan lines. Exotic dancers take their clothes off for their job, so no problem there either. These situations have a purpose.

Something tells me these guys will have no regrets, but I just hope this girl doesn't regret baring her boobs in the morning - especially when pics show up.
